nice of esl to tell us
cant really moan that they are only giving away premium when sgl has no prizes and doesn't stop most people playing in it, taking a look at the SGL invite an EPS league looks like a bit of a stretch even with Dignitas and TCM in the mix, the play hard go pro era for 1.6 seems to be over in the uk
Money attracts gamers BoyRacon
no it doesnt. note ukesa. could of been a prem game but people dont give a shit. esl waste of time.
got to disagree robbs
1. quite a few teams and people made an effort to get signed up for ukesa
2. the interest mainly dropped off when it turned out that ukesa was probably the most appallingly run league ever
3. ESL has the benefit of not being run by clowns, and has a tried and tested record in other countries.
16 teams is indeed a few. what put people off was the fact you had to pay, nothing to do with how it was run.
ive played in several esl run things and they are woeful. the kingofthehill shit they did and then an attempt at a league which was even worse. add to that the fact that guccie loves to cheat on their ac (and gets away with it) and you have yourself a waste of time.
money can't buy you love
"the play hard go pro era for 1.6 seems to be over in the uk " - RoyBacon
So true.
i will admit i will start leagues with cash prizes an hardware safe.
blubs u just love it
CS hasn't been play hard go pro for a hell of a long time, that doesn't mean it's dead.
Leagues used to have to turn teams away and would all fill up nicely, we used to have CSGN, SGL and ED:CS running leagues full of teams with most of the top teams taking part and people like ESL who ran cups and other random start up leagues like GBGL, backed up with UKT and then IG LANs.
Now the SGL is basically the only one left and even they are struggling to fill the league with teams and with the quality of the top competitions in decline and considered dropping 1.6 all together, so no its not dead, but definitely close to retirement age.
This isn't happening all across Europe, with a lot of their scene's attracting lots of new players and buzzing with LANs and team's, but here in the UK 1.6 seems to have lost all the new players to CSS.
Great attitude from Ct-R there, you will only play if we give you prize money?
We want to give EPS to games that have a community big enough to contribute to ESL UK, paying for a dozen teams to play a league achieves nothing
cache, as far as I know Dianoga contacted a ukct admin to post it more than a week ago, and I have spammed every player of every team in every CS cup/league we have ran in the last month.. twice
If 13 teams is all UK CS can muster without having to buy teams participation then I'm seriously going to reconsider my position in wanting to give CS an EPS
Play hard, end up dead in a skip.

Can we get this moved to a news post please?
Its clear, if UK wants a EPS then every top/mid tier team has to sign up.
If you don't then don't bother.
Nic, I thought Dianoga had contacted you guys already
I've extended the sign ups to sunday night in order to get more teams in
i agree with kelevra. what the hell is the point in playing cs and being in a team if you aren't going to sign up to leagues, regardless of the lack of prize money.
RoyB... struggling to fill SGL? Have you seen how many leagues there are!!! There should be more condensed leagues to encourage a higher quality of opposition. There are, indeed, less teams than there have been in the past. However, the quality of teams now is about 5 billion times that of the previous teams.
Even awful teams like Satyr know how to play CS now. Almost every team below prem in CSGN was abysmal, even by standards then. I think there's still plenty of players floating about, it would just be nice if they didn't all have egos and could maintain a clan for more than a week so that they could join things like this!

Sorry but that simply isn't the case. I've been playing in ESL leagues on the same roster since 2005 (check the straightsix history) and have always stuck by you guys. If you speak to any of (what were) the top teams around Christmas time/January ... you'd know that I literally barraged every UK CS team mithering them to sign up for one of the ESL cups.
Out of 16 teams signed up, 6 were in the 'top 10 UK teams' and 12/16 were signed up purely due to my diligence.
The cup, subsequently was a shambles with poor administering the core reason.
So don't try to make me out to have a poor attitude to the ESL. Everyone that knows me would know that if I could do anything to help this scene, I would. Signing up to this cup, however, is not something I'm willing to do. The format is bad, the timescale is bad and it has no prestige to make our time come even close to worth the effort.
CTR, sorry for biting a little in my reply, that was because you were basically demanding prize money for a fun league
We are fine fine with "pro" teams not signing up, they are not our target for the Leagues, the Leagues are for the majority of teams who want to play for playing sake, if the community isn't large enough to sustain even a simple 16 team league without pro teams, then why support it?
Yeah struggle to fill sgl when you consider half the teams that play in it now wouldn't have got a look in before and would have had to settle for a place in the ED:CS league, not the mention the fact that half the teams in it don't bother to show up for games and the best teams in the uk consistently fold or simply don't enter.
I'd struggle to name 8 teams that pcw regularly to a high standard and are actually trying to improve as a team, where as a year ago you could easily name 20 and the year before that probably close to 40, with the LAN scene dried up and big tournaments not holding qualifiers in the UK and the growth of the CSS scene in this country its hardly a surprise 1.6 has taken a back seat.
If you think I'm being unreasonable UKCT attempted to draw up a top 10 of UK teams a few weeks back and within the space of about a week 3 of the teams that would have been in the list folded making it a completely pointless waste of time, it was incredibly hard to choose between teams because many of them were barely active and having to scrape around for results made it even more ridiculous, so you end up looking at passed reputations and then you see that beyond Dignitas no other UK team is really worth a mention, at least before there was at least a kind of structure, with a couple of teams looking to challenge Dignitas (4K TCM), then a number of teams around the SGL invite level who would place well at LANs (TLR,immolate) and then another group of teams below that level looking to break into it... Now we're got Dignitas then a gaping void of apathetic mediocrity, which I really don't think justifies an EPS league lol
RoyBacon, you're not putting things in perspective. For years, 4K were the only team in the UK that could compete on an international level, with a massive gulf between them and the next best teams (omg!, i-es, lastchance, etc). The only thing to change is that 4K have been replaced by Dignitas.
Although I havn't been active for a few months, I get the impression that there are enough good teams in the UK to warrent an EPS and, if the attraction of good prizes was in place, then plenty of new teams would spring up to join them.
the fact that you're able to name teams like omg! i-es and lastchance shows that you have an idea of who was next in line below 4kings, now most of the teams in sgl invite are semi active and arn't trying to catch or compete with Dig, where as before at least those teams were making an effort, thats basically my point...
MVS had a massive prize pot, probably bigger than anything online before, certainly in the UK but i don't think it brought players back to 1.6 or encouraged teams to practice more, i mean a ditto were a mix team and came 3rd, so i don't think good prizes will change much in the long run
I can confirm i will be back if there is an eps uk.
i wouldn't bother this scene was dead 2-3 years ago, the games a decade old. Sponsors dont want to market their top of the range hardware for a decade old game, c'mon lets be realistic here
some nice life storys here
Ah game died when I was a player with impeccable quality. Cheers LGN
I had kritikal sulph and eLm playing with me in MVS, not that we got very far as they had source commitments and obviously picked the LAN over MVS but still... its draws people back, its peoples home game.
at the end of the day esl are trying to do the whole scene a favour, tell them what you want, negotiate and deal with it. the scene has literally turned into pure bitching and backstabbing, just find your team mates and play, simple.
fuck esl, bunch of wankers
RoyBacon, I think you've got a point. Maybe I'm just a bit idealistic.
I think the main thing about playing in these leagues is that ESL get a feel of how good you are for the big competitions, There's the ESL extreme masters which has a good prizefund and a lan if you get far enough through, and there's plenty more competitions available through it, so it's well worth playing in all of these cups and leagues if it puts you forward for the big ones.
I love peoples attitudes on here, rather than "UK Scene is dieing, lets do as much as we can to keep it alive" people are going for the easy approach and saying "It's dead, may as well give up and move on to a game we all dislike."
ye you should all stfu and start praccing more.
bring back cs_thunder!
whenever Ct-R quits CS, it all goes pete tong
I agree with robbs!
